As a dessert fans, I am very happy to see Snowman Tang Bo Fu is finally landed in Penang Island. Yes, you heard it right. Now, you no longer need to go to Raja Uda branch to have the desserts anymore (Although it is not really far, I am too lazy to drive there just to have desserts). Just drive to Pulau Tikus and you can enjoy all the desserts you want.

Snowman Tang Bo Fu is located at Cantonment Road, opposite Canton Square (If you refer to the Google Maps).

Snowman Tang Bo Fu is not the same as the Hong Kong Dessert House Tong Pak Fu. The English name and Chinese name of the shop are different as well. I saw a lot of posts listed the name as Tong Pak Fu Hong Kong Dessert House. However, after confirming with the shop, it is Snowman Tang Bo Fu instead.

Menu – Front.

Menu – Back.

Red Bean Soup Glutinous Balls 红豆沙汤圆 RM5.80. To my surprise, the red bean soup is not overly sweet. It tastes just nice! Most of the red bean soup from other shops are very sweet. I like this one. Besides, the price is reasonable.

Red Bean Soup Soya Bean Curd 红豆沙豆腐花 RM5.80. Same as the above. Just the glutinous balls are changed to soya bean curd.

Mango Mini Rice Ball 芒果小丸子 RM7.80. Most of the Hong Kong desserts house will have this dessert.Normally, they will only come with the white glutinous balls. However, this one comes with another 2 colors, pink and green, which make the dessert looks colorful. To mango lovers, this is a MUST.

Mango Magic Ball or Mango QQ Ball 芒果跳跳蛋 RM7.80. The mango base is the same as the above. What makes this dessert so special after all? The magic balls! When you bite on the magic ball, it will burst in your mouth, with mango juice. The taste is so good. Thumbs up.

Sea Coconut Ice Cream Grass Jelly 海底椰雪山黑凉粉 RM10.80. Sea coconut is normal but the base juice is nice. It gets extra point with the Green Tea ice cream on top.

Golden Legend of Four 四大才子 RM19.80. This is the main dessert among all others. If you like mango like I do, you will not miss this dessert. It consists of 4 desserts, all serve with mango. Yummy!

RM7.80. This combination is a bit weird to me. Don’t you think so? From the menu, you can customize your own dessert by mix and match. All kind of weird combination can be done, if you want to.

Mango Coconut Ice Cream 芒椰芒冰爽 RM12.80. It will be nice if you can mix it up to have a better taste. Of course, not mixing the ice cream together.

Dark Chocolate Fondue 黑巧克力火锅 RM29.80. This is the long awaited item to be served. However, the items are not cold enough. A bit disappointed.

There is a small stage in the center of the shop for the singing session. This logo is on the wall at the back.

Surroundings.

Overall, there are a lot of dessert varieties to choose from, especially when you are craving for mango. Price wise, some with reasonable price while some others are a little bit pricey. Beside the desserts, Snowman Tang Bo Fu serves snacks as well. The environment is good for gathering and chit chat. However, with the singing session, I am not sure will it still be a good place for hang out, with the music at the background. The shop lot is quite small too. Apart from this, parking is one of the issue in Pulau Tikus. It is not easy to get a parking lot. If you are lucky, you can get a nearby lot. If not, you can try the luck at Belisa Row and walk over to the shop if you manage to get one there.

For those who never try out Snowman Tang Bo Fu, do give it a try. You will not regret after all.

I came across the KOI Sushi Eat All You Can promotion from Facebook. Before this, I saw some people are posting the previous deal on their blog. Since I got to know it during the promotional period, I think of giving it a try. The promotion is from December 1 to December 9, 2011, total of 9 days @ KOI Japanese Restaurant, Penang Gurney Plaza New Wing.

Salmon Nigiri. The Salmon slice is thin and the rice is a bit too much. This is what I expected before I went.

Tako Nigiri (Octopus) and Unagi Nigiri (Eel). Very normal, nothing to shout about.

Ebiko Gunkan (Prawn Roe), Chuka Kurage Gunkan (Seasoned Jellyfish) and Chuka Idako Gunkan (Seasoned Baby Octopus). 3 of them are nice! Much better if compare to the Nigiri we ordered.

Chicken Katsu Mayo Gunkan. Not bad, just no idea why they like Mayo so much. Among 40 of them, 9 are with Mayo wording, never count those without Mayo wording but serve with Mayo.

Mixed Mayo Maki (Assorted Fish with Mayo) and Chicken Katsu Maki (Fried Chicken Cutlet, Cucumber and Ebiko). Both are nice.

Bread Crunch Maki (Bread and Nori rolled with Crabstick, Cream Cheese, Ebiko, Cucumber and Croutons). This one is special. Too bad we only ordered it towards the end. A bit regret on ordering too many of the Nigiri, should have order the maki more.

Table setting.

Surrounding.

Sushi bar.

People are waiting outside for the next session.

Overall, for sushi lovers, you can go ahead with this buffet as you have the chance to try different kind of sushi. However, don’t expect too much on the sushi served. For RM25++, you cannot expect to get a very high class of sushi. It is impossible to order all types and try all of them, unless you are a big eater. For recommendation, do try the Gunkan and the last 7 Maki especially the Bread Crunch Maki. Bread is used instead of rice, special and nice.

3 days left before the promotion ends. Act fast if you want to give it a try. Do call +604-2277112 for reservation.

After hearing and reading so many reviews on Fullhouse Lifestyle Store and Cafe, finally, it opens in Penang on November 11, 2011 @ Penang Time Square. Just after a week of the grand opening, we headed there for lunch.

Beside the Entrance.

Logo at the Cashier.

Surrounding. I like the color they used, WHITE! It makes the environment become brighter.

All tables and chairs are in white.

You can see this if you enter the restaurant through another entrance facing the main road. Cute character.

Menu. It is more like a magazine or small booklet. For lunch, there are 5 set lunch for your to choose from. The set lunch includes Soup of the Day, Main Course, Drink and Dessert.

Soup of the Day and Ice Lemon Tea. The soup is not bad, but more on sweet taste. The Ice Lemon Tea is too sweet for my liking.

Soup of the Day after adding black pepper. It is much better after adding the pepper.Do you think the pepper looks like a hopping dog? I just notice that.

Set Lunch
No. 201
Set 1: Thomas’s Favourite Meal – Spaghetti Pasta with Turkey Ham and Mushroom Cream
RM16.90

The sauce is creamy. If you like cream sauce for the pasta, then you will like this. The ham and mushroom come with a generous portion. After eating for some time, I feel a bit too much already. I still prefer to have the tomato sauce as the base for pasta.

No. 203
Set 3: Tony’s Favourite Meal – Wok-Sear Chicken Chop with Daily Vegetable
RM18.90

The chicken chop comes in a small portion. It is just a normal chicken chop. Presentation wise also on average side.

No. 205
Set 5: Tracy’s New Recipe – Al-Funghi Spaghetti
RM16.90

This Spaghetti surprised me. Although it is in dry version, I like it more than the Spaghetti Pasta with Turkey Ham and Mushroom Cream. It has the Bird’s Eye Chili (Cili Padi or Cabai Burung) in it. With this, it level up the taste with some spiciness, which is very good. Like it!

Dessert – Petitfour. It is a small piece of cake or tart from the selection below. They are sweet. To me, it is very normal. You can buy it separately: 1pc – RM2.50; 6pcs – RM13.00; 12pcs – RM24.00.

Set lunch menu taken from the website (For the set lunch we ordered).

If I happen to go again in future, I will order the Salmon Salad. It looks so tempting from the Menu.

Overall, the soup and main course are just average. Al-Funghi Spaghetti is recommended if you like some spiciness. The Ice Lemon Tea is too sweet, the Petitfour too! Apart from the food, the environment and surrounding are great for gathering and chit chat. It is very spacious. You can take any photos you like without any restriction.

There is a corner selling all the interesting stuffs. There is also a second floor but I never go up and take a look. Maybe next time. One interesting fact to share, the washroom is combined for male and female. So, don’t freak out and scream if you go inside and see someone who is your opposite sex.

There is only one thing restricting me for going there, the parking. I don’t like the multi-storey parking. The design is totally BAD! I have no idea why they design it that way. The worst multi-storey parking in Penang! If possible, I will try to park outside rather than going inside. It seems like only taking more photos on Fullhouse Lifestyle Store and Cafe and the Salmon Salad will be the valid reason for me to go there again.

Woolloomooloo – Modern Autralian Cuisine Restaurant is located just opposite of Queensbay Mall, beside the Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt.

Appetizer of the Day – Chicken Salad. At first, I thought the Appetizer will be the Mushroom Soup. Anyhow, Salad is also not bad after all.

The salad tastes sour. However, we forgot to stir and mix it before we ate. That is the reason why. It tastes better after the stirring and mixing. There are a lot of chicken meat in the salad. The portion is very generous.

Main Course:

Beer Battered Fish and Chips with Salad and Tartar Sauce.
It is a very simple dish. The fish itself is tasteless, if without the Tartar sauce. Just a normal fish and chip to me. Why the brown paper is used to wrap the fish? I have no idea.

Polenta-encrusted Fried Chicken with Green Pea Mash & Tomato Relish.
The Green Pea Mash is nice and special. Normal dish with nice presentation though.

Green Curry Chicken with Jasmine Rice
The curry is spicy, if you taste it without having the rice together. This is what we did.

This dish is good to eat with the rice. That is the purpose why the green curry is come together with the Jasmine Rice.

Woolloomooloo Beef Burger with Cheese, Caramelized Onion and Fries
The beef burger is good! Like it quite a lot.

Penne with Chicken Sausages & Roasted Tomato Sauce
I am a bit disappointed with this dish. It is just a very normal dish. All of us think that, the sausages should change to chicken or other stuff.

Linguine with Smoked Salmon & Dill Cream Sauce
I like this dish because of the Smoke Salmon. Haha. Besides, the taste is also not bad at all! Again, we forgot to mix it properly. By that time, it is almost finish. Towards the end, all of us only noticed there is a wine taste. It will be a nice dish from the very beginning if we mix it properly before start eating.

After the main course, we were served with the dessert. The dessert was a bit special. Carrot Jelly and Cucumber Jelly, you try before? At first, we cannot tell what is the taste. We asked the waiter in the end. Of course, the ice cream is nice too!

Carrot Jelly with Ice Cream

Cucumber Jelly with Ice Cream

Apart from the dessert served by Woolloomooloo, we have 2nd round of dessert, Macaroon brought by my friend.

Macaroon
Although Macaroon tend to be sweet, I still feel this is too sweet for me. Anyhow, Thanks to my friend for treating us.

Overall, the food is OK. The environment is good for gathering. However, I never see any specialty from the set lunch menu. They are just simply the western food to me. Maybe, next time we should order some à la carte Australian Cuisine instead. After all, Woolloomooloo is the Modern Autralian Cuisine Restaurant.

It is quite hard to look for a dessert shop in Penang. Most of them are stalls located at road side. The very first one that come into my mind will be the Sugar Dynasty 糖朝 @ Nagore Road, behind New World Park. Another one will be the stall located in Choi Wui Lei Tea Garden Coffee Shop @ Jalan Aziz Ibrahim, Sungai Nibong.

Most of the dessert stalls only carry a few type of desserts. Now, you can find most of the desserts you want in Sweet-i, The Sweet Temptation Shop House @ Jalan Sungai Dua, Gelugor, Penang.

Try to look for the billboard in front of the house. Previously, it is located along the road side @ Jalan Helang.

There are a lot of printout and photos on the wall. You can get all the information you need on the desserts.

Cold version of Tapioca Jelly Bubur Cha Cha. I still prefer the hot one. But, I am not really like the green jelly thing.

Groundnut Cream Soup（生磨香甜花生糊) – RM3.00 (each packet), RM3.30 (each container)

If you don’t think of getting rice or noodle on a particular day, try to get the healthy porridge from Sweet-i. This is the first time I see there are so many ingredients inside a porridge:　Black Bean, Chinese Yam, Lotus Seed, Kelp, Mushroom and Pumpkin. The porridge is cooked with all natural ingredients with no additional artificial taste. 黑豆山药糙米粥 （黑豆， 山药， 莲子，海带，香菇，南瓜） 全天然，无味精！ RM4.50

Overall, I like the desserts from Sweet-i. For me, Desserts are my all time favorite. If I am going for a hotel buffet, desserts will be my main course. LOL. However, most of them are sweet and not recommended to eat that much, unless you exercise a lot to burn all the calories consumed.

Sweet-i is the one stop dessert shop for desserts lovers out there. You can find so many different kind of desserts here at one time without going to other different places just to get them. Furthermore, the ingredients are really a lot per serving. Their business hour is from 5.30pm – 10.30 daily, except Monday. However, It is highly recommended to call before you go to avoid any disappointment.

A MUST TRY!!!

Hi everyone! I am back.

Today, I am proudly present to you the homemade Sushi Roll and Nigiri from Yummy Station! I am addicted to Sushi making since I am back. I have been trying here and there to make it perfect. However, there are still a lot of improvements needed.

First Try
Before started, I have few rounds of shopping to get all the ingredients needed. I have no idea how many cup of rice needed since it is the first time on my own (Previously, tried 1 cup with my sister but it seems like it was too little). So, I tried with 2 cups of rice. It turned out to be too much rice! The ingredients I used are Nori, Tamago, Imitation Crab and Cucumber.

* Tips: For the Imitation Crab, DON’T EVER buy those cheap one. I bought it and regretted. Why? When I peel off the plastic, the red thing was coming out together and the Imitation Crab Meat become white and no longer red on the top!

Second Try
This round, I cooked 1 1/2 cups of rice. The rice is still too much. The ingredients are still the same as the first try, just added another ingredient, Baby Asparagus. I stuffed more ingredients inside. I also tried Kappa Maki and Tamago Maki. But I never took the Maki photo itself. It was mixed with the sushi roll. The photo is not that nice. I will try to make it another day and update the photo here.

Third Try
For the third time, I only cooked 1 cup of rice. The quantity of the rice is OK, but it is still too much if you are the only one to consume the whole thing. This round, I made the Nigiri and not the Sushi Roll anymore. Again, I am using the same ingredients, which are Tamago, Imitation Crab and Baby Asparagus.

From the photo, you can see why I said we need to get a good Imitation Crab and not the cheap one.

Overall, it is a nice experience for me to try making the sushi by myself, by referring to the recipe from Internet. For the taste wise, I will say the Sushi Roll and Nigiri are OK. Of course, it cannot compare to those from the restaurant. Next, I will try with the Sashimi. However, it is not easy to get Sashimi grade fish here. I will see what I can get by then.

About Carpenter Street Cafe
Carpenter Street Cafe, named after a famous Chinatown street in Kuching Sarawak, brings to you the taste of Kuching’s specialty dishes including Kolomee and Sarawak Laksa. Why fly to Kuching when you could enjoy these in Penang?
* Taken from the Carpenter Street Cafe Facebook.

Most of the restaurants are using own ordering method. Carpenter Street Cafe is also using the same concept. However, I think the container for the soy sauce and pepper can be changed to a better one. Those are like the one used in coffee shop and not a restaurant, don’t you think so?

Ice Honey Green Tea RM1.50 and Mango Ice RM3.50. Nothing to shout about on the drinks. I managed to taste on the Mango Ice and what I can say is, it is same as those from the outside. Mango Syrup is used, I assume. I am not really like it. This is only my own preference, no offense, I am very particular on Mango.

Sarawak Kolomee RM5.90. Sarawak Kolomee is a signature dish in Sarawak. Dried noodle with Mince Meat, Char Siew (BBQ Pork), Fried Red Onion and Vegetable. A must try of authentic taste of Sarawak. It is available in either dried (Kolo), red (Char Siew oil) or soup flavor.

From the Sarawak Tourism Board,
Kolok Mee is a type of noodle dish commonly found in Sarawak. It is served throughout the day – for breakfast, lunch or even supper. It is made of egg noodle, blanched in water that looks like instant noodle and served in a light sauce with some condiments like shredded beef.

The difference with Kolok Mee and the Wantan Mee, that is popular in Peninsular, is that Kolok Mee is not drenched in dark soy sauce and water is not added to the noodles when served. But the taste is still pretty amazing.

I opt for the dry version. It is really DRY, totally no gravy at all. Sometimes, I will have my Wantan Mee in a very dry version as well, so this is not an issue for me. The Char Siew is soft and the Fried Red Onion tastes good.

Sarawak Tomato Noodle RM7.90. Sarawak Tomato Noodle is a Sarawak local specialty with deep fried Kolomee served in special tomato soup originate from Sarawak.

Sarawak Tomato Noodle looks like the Sizzling Plate Noodle to me. Just that the gravy is tomato base. As you can see, the ingredients are almost the same. The tomato gravy has a little spiciness. It will be better if the Tomato gravy is thicker. Presentation wise, the noodle is not placed in the center of the plate. It is almost reaching the edge.

Interior.

Overall, the Kolomee is not bad. I cannot do a comparison since I don’t have the chance to try the real Kolomee in Sarawak. Too bad, no one order the Sarawak Laksa for this round. I will go back and try that in future. Besides the Sarawak Laksa, I also wish to try the Kolomee in Char Siew Oil. Not sure will it be too oily? The price for the food is pretty reasonable. To date, Carpenter Street Cafe doesn’t have any set meal menu. Maybe they can think of having it. Anyhow, Carpenter Street Cafe is definitely your One Stop for Authentic Sarawak Food. Do give it a try if you passed by.

Carpenter Street Cafe is located at Bandar Bayan Baru, beside AM Bank and near to the Old Town White Coffee Bayan Baru.

Since the opening of Straits Quay, I have gone there many times. Most of the time, I went there just for a walk with family members and friends, never try any restaurants. Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant is the first one I visited.

I like the outlook of Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant.

The interior too. I like the design. Each section has a teapot and a bowl occupied. Like it.

I only manage to take a few photos for the interior. It was a bit rush……

Rainbow Roll RM22.00. This Rainbow Roll looks so colorful. One thing that I want to mention, the presentation of wasabi on the Rainbow Roll was not nicely present. It seems like they just simply scoop the wasabi and put on the plate. It should like the one behind (we asked for more wasabi), don’t you think so?

Katsu Nabe Set RM21.00. My friend ordered this. This is a very normal dish. You can find it in other Japanese Restaurants as well. Oh Sushi served this dish with a separate bowl of rice. Normally, I always have it with the rice below the fried chicken, egg and onion. Although it was served separately, my friend poured the rice into this big bowl, stirred and ate like that. From him, it was better to eat in this method rather than separate it.

Katsu Nabe Set has a 25% discount when we dined at that day.

Hotate Ramen RM18.00. The scallops were quite huge and it has a total of 4-5 pieces. Quite a generous portion.

Salmon Sushi Maki Bento RM26.00. Please don’t let this set fooled you. You will be very FULL after finishing this whole set. This Salmon Sushi Maki Bento has 4 pieces of Salmon Sushi, 6 pieces of Mayonnaise Crab Stick Maki, 1 Chawanmushi, 1 Tempura and 1 Miso Soup. Heard of it already full, right? It is a recommended set!

Unagi Roll Bento RM38.00. This set is almost same with the Salmon Sushi Maki Bento. The Salmon Sushi replaced with Unagi Roll and the Maki exchanged with the Salmon Sashimi. Due to the sashimi and Unagi, the price was RM12 different from the Salmon Sushi Maki Bento.

I have the chance to try one piece of the Unagi Roll. That was a thick Unagi slice. Nice!

Salmon Teriyaki Bento RM19.80. For additional RM3, you can complete the set with 1 Miso Soup and 1 Chawanmushi. The Salmon Teriyaki was overcooked. The texture becomes hard. I was a bit disappointed with it.

There was a number 5 printed on the napkin. Any meaning for that? No idea.

Oh Sushi is located at the Quay South near to the Four Season Bakery.

Taken from Straits Quay website.

Overall, I like the interior and environment very much. The food was good as well, except the overcooked Salmon Teriyaki. Although some people will think the price is above average, with the portion of the food, it is worth it after all. I will definitely go visiting Oh Sushi again in future.

I never notice there is another Taiwanese Restaurant in Midlands Park Centre. I used to go Midlands Park (or so called One Stop) for computer related stuff when it was still happening back then, but never knew about this restaurant.

This Tainan Restaurant was operated by sisters since it was opened. Until end of last year, it was taken over by a young man, Mr Chong.

The interior of the restaurant is very simple. It is more on family style rather than those elegant environment.

Menu. I like the wood cover of the menu.

Let’s start with some snacks.

Eel Roll 鳗鱼卷 RM6.00. This is nice. It has a lot of ingredients inside the roll. Will order this again for my next visit.

Taiwan Sausage 台湾香肠 RM8.50. Nothing to shout about on this. Pretty normal Taiwan Sausage.

Taiwan Wantan Soup 红油炒手 RM6.50. For those who loved ginger, you will like this very much. Ginger juice is used to mix with the mince pork. From the first bit until the very last bite, you can taste the ginger. To me, I am OK with this, but not to my friend.

Taiwan Beef Noodle 台湾牛肉面 RM7. The soup is thick and the taste is similar with the taste of other soup. We cannot think of it at first. But later, we remembered after a number of tasting. It is like the taste of an oxtail soup.

The noodle used is different if compare to other Taiwan Beef Noodle. The beef I had was tender to my liking. According to the owner, they went to the market to get the beef everyday. So, it is fresh! It is recommended to eat it while it was hot.

Golden Chicken Wing Rice 香草炸鸡翅饭 RM7. You can taste the rice wine from the chicken wing. For chicken wing lover, this is a MUST for you.

Golden Chicken Drumstick Rice 鸡腿饭 RM7. The drumstick is not bad overall. I am quite like it.

Pork Chop Rice 排骨饭 RM7. The Pork Chop is crispy and NOT OILY. Yes, I am very particular on this. Nice.

Saucy Chicken Rice 贵妃鸡饭 RM8. Wolf Berries are used for the sauce. The sauce is sweet and the chicken is tender enough. My friends like the egg very much.

Special Pork Rib Rice 豆瓣酱排骨饭 RM7. This is another dish that I like. It is so nice to have it with the rice, due to the saltiness of the sauce. It blends well with the rice, makes you craving for more!

Photo taken from FoOd PaRaDiSe. I somehow forgot to take the photo of this dish. I think I am either busy photo shooting or busy eating. Haha.

For all the dishes above, you can opt for the Set Meal by adding RM4.50, which comes with a Drink, Soup of the Day and Dessert. The dessert on that day is Barley. The desserts are varies from day to day. They have Green Bean, Peanut, Longan White Fungus or even Ice Cream. All depends on your luck.

Soup of the day. The soup is very nice. I like it.

Tainan Restaurant has this so called Free Set Meal card.

Every set meal will entitle you a stamp. Collect for 15 stamps and you will get a Free Set Meal, except for the Seafood Set Meal.

Other Dishes that you can try from Tainan Restaurant:

This is the first time I went to Ong Cheng Huat Seafood after hearing the name for so many times. My friend organized an eating session previously but I was not able to make it. When he organized it for the 2nd time, I accepted the invitation without any thought.

My friend is the one who ordered the food since I have no idea which one is nice and which is not. He ordered Fried Bee Hoon, Fish, Clam, Prawn Cracker, Boiled Octopus and Spring Chicken.

Fried Bee Hoon. Nothing to shout about this. Normal economy bee hoon.

Prawn Crackers. THUMBS UP for this! We ordered extra 2 plates after we finished this plate. They call this prawn crackers as Popiah instead of “Hae Chi”, quite weird. Maybe the use the Popiah skin to make this? I am not sure. Anyway, is a MUST order dish.

Fish. Not sure what type of fish is this. White Pomfret? No idea. I only know how to eat. ;p This fish was not cheap at all. It costs us RM85!!! I think it is a bit overprice, don’t you think so?

Clam or so called “Lala”. They are quite huge in size!

Boiled Octopus aka “Tu Bo Sui”. According to another friend, there is a restaurant in Nibong Tebal serves better boiled octopus. We will go to try it some day in future.

Spring Chicken. Not sure is this really a spring chicken or pigeon? I doubt it. They were small! Poor thing.

After all these food, we think of having some dessert. My friend saw other customers were having the fried ice cream. Since our stomach still have some space left, we ordered the fried ice cream.

Fried Ice Cream. They serve us with the wrong flavor, not those we have ordered. I think they mistakenly brought other customer’s order to us. Anyhow, we just ate it.

Overall, the food is OK. The Prawn Crackers are the outstanding dish among others. The rest are just average, not really that good and not really the bad either. However, I think the price is a bit pricy due to the fish. All dishes were consider cheap, only the fish. Total cost was RM198.
